What is VOSA?
The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency has been in operation since the beginning of April 2003 and provides a range of services for vehicle users. Since the agency began they have had particular aims regarding the use of motor vehicles. Their main aims are raising the standards of vehicles used on the roads and also the knowledge that people have about the road legislation being to a high standard.
Checks and Testing Carried Out by VOSA
Below are some of the different ways in which the agency moderate the motor vehicle checks and increased the knowledge of the people operating the vehicles;
- Services that VOSA provide - The services that the VOSA provide range from MOT's to driver training this is so the drivers have the best possible knowledge and the vehicles being driven on the roads are in good condition. Both of these are important because it means that the driver is fully aware of road legislation and the vehicles can't fail the person causing them any difficulty when driving. It works for the safety of all road users because with drivers being more aware of road safety it means the roads are safer for people such as cyclists.
- Provisioning of services by VOSA - They provision the MOT services provided by garages all over the UK ensuring that the service they are providing is of a high standard. This means they will check that the staff carrying out the work have the right qualifications and tools to complete the work. This is not only advantageous to the company because they will have capable staff but also for the customer because they will know the people servicing their car are qualified to do so.
- Testing of vehicles - The agency carry out testing on vehicles as well as the companies that maintain them. The vehicles they test are commercial ones such as lorries and vans making sure they are fully road worthy and aren't going to cause any danger for anyone else as well as the driver.
The service that the VOSA provide is very important to keep all road users safe and it helps make sure that the companies that are servicing the vehicles are doing so correctly. It's work benefits everyone from companies to individuals and the number of garages they back for MOT testing stations is also growing.
